Five orange zones in Quebec could soon surpass Montreal in terms of new coronavirus cases, Premier François Legault confirmed in a press conference on March 30.

The premier said the COVID-19 situation in Montreal remains stable compared to the five regions, which saw a "strong increase" since being designated orange zones.

Legault called the Outaouais region the most "worrying," particularly Gatineau, and said public health officials are in discussions with the Government of Ontario to "harmonize" public health measures in the border city.

The other regions where he said the COVID-19 situation is "worrying" are Capitale-Nationale, Chaudière-Appalaches, Lac-Saint-Jean and Bas-Saint-Laurent.

The premier said these areas are "under high surveillance" and he would not rule out implementing stricter public health protocols there in the coming days, especially for the Easter holiday. However, for now, he said the focus is on respecting measures already in effect.
