A Protest To Abolish The SPVM Is Planned In Montreal
On Monday, March 15, Montreal's annual anti-police brutality protest will take to the streets once again. This year, for its 25th edition, organizers the Collectif opposé à la brutalité policière (COBP) have a simple goal: "the abolition of the police."
"We have been more than lenient, we have given them more than their fair chance: it is now time to think of something different for Montreal, for a Montreal post-SPVM," they wrote online.

Organizers plan to assemble near Parc metro station at 5 p.m.
This year's demonstration follows a year marked by incidents of police violence in North America.
Amid the pandemic, Montrealers took to the streets many times last year following the police killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Montrealer Sheffield Matthews.
"If the police both cause harm and cannot make society safer then what purpose do they serve?" the COBP wrote.
"With all this institutionalized repression here and in many parts of the world we can't help but ask: what system do they protect?"
Organizers are asking participants to wear masks and follow public health regulations.
"Because we want systemic changes, a world where we all have our place, a world where we're not just cheap shots for a gang of criminals in uniform. Because enough is enough!"
