A Giant New Skatepark Just Opened Outside Montreal With Tons Of Ramps & Obstacles

The "planchodrome" opened just in time for summer!
Staff Writer

If you're a skateboarder, this summer's hottest place to be is Brossard's newest outdoor skatepark. Officially opened on May 27, the Brossard "planchodrome" is waiting for you to land your sickest tricks. As long as you stay a respectful two metres away from each other, skaters from all over Montreal are welcome.

"The season is bringing its share of festivities, and the opening of the skateboard park is at the top of the list," said Brossard Mayor Doreen Assad.

"The city council is delighted with the quality and the diversity of the modules found in it: sports enthusiasts will be able to indulge their passion in the best possible conditions."

Many team sports aren't yet permitted by the government of Quebec, but on May 23, Premier François Legault mandated that individual sports facilities like skateparks are allowed to reopen.

The new skatepark is fully equipped and seems like a skateboarder's paradise.

According to a report by Le Courrier Sud, the new skatepark was realized thanks to a $1,126,000 investment by the City of Brossard.

The project broke ground in 2019 and was completed right on time for the summer season.

The park is part of a new series of public infrastructure investments by the city.

Later this summer, Brossard is also planning to open a new aquatic centre that "will include a competition pool, a recreational pool and a health and well-being area," according to its website.

According to a statement, the skatepark "was designed by and for users, thanks to the contribution of a working group bringing together members from all walks of life and of all ages, with the aim of developing accessible and evolutionary modules, suitable for beginners and experts alike."

The "planchodrome" joins many other high-quality skateparks around Montreal, along with the sprawling Spin skatepark in Quartier Dix-30.
