According to Journal de Montréal, the black bear found in Montreal this past weekend has been euthanized. The bear was caught by SPVM officers and Sauvetage Animal Rescue on Sunday.

Originally, Sauvetage Animal Rescue reported that "the bear cub will be released in an environment that will be more suitable for him!"

Later that evening, the animal rescue group said they were shocked to find out through the media that the bear had been euthanized.

"At the end of yesterday's operation, we were informed that the bear would be released away from the city. We have not been contacted by the Ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs to indicate that another decision has been made," Sauvetage Animal Rescue wrote.

"On our side, we are in contact with several shelters that could have taken care of the young bear if the release was impossible. We are in shock and are currently trying to confirm the information."
