Montreal Has Big Plans For The Downtown This Summer

Despite the fact that it might be another pandemic summer (at least partially), the City of Montreal and the Government of Quebec are pouring money into downtown Montreal this summer. 

According to Mayor Valérie Plante, the $25-million investment will go towards "cultural activities, original urban design, expanded terrasses, transformed and inhabited offices, outdoor co-working spaces, free parking and more."

The city and government will invest $2 million into a "gastronomy/buy local campaign," as well as "support for restaurateurs." An additional $6 million will go towards helping businesses. 

They will also invest $6 million "to make the downtown attractive to workers and visitors," including $2 million to revitalize Chinatown. The city will invest $4 million in the "visitor experience," which includes free street parking on Fridays and weekends. 

"Gastronomy, culture and joie de vivre are part of Montreal's DNA and it is with enthusiasm that we are doing everything to allow them to prosper this summer," said Mayor Valérie Plante.
