Quebec Is Going To Close Montreal Gyms & Ban Organized Sports While We're Under Red Alert
Beginning October 8.
During the Government of Quebec's press conference on October 5, the Minister for Education, Isabelle Charest, let the province know that as of October 8, all gyms in must close for a minimum of 20 days.
That will bring us to October 28, which will mark the final day of partial lockdown for regions in red alert's — unless it gets extended, whichsaid is a possibility.
Along with gyms in red zones having to close, all organized sports in these regions, with the exception of ones which are practiced alone, must stop for the same 20 days.
It will require sacrifices in order for us to get back to normal life.
Isabelle Charest, Minister for Education
These new protocols for regions under "red alert" are being put in place to try and limit the spread of COVID-19 as much as possible, according to the Minister for Education.
"The evolution of the situation thus leads us to announce a tightening of the sanitary measures in our schools and for the leisure and sport environment, in red zones," Legault wrote in a recent Facebook post.
Charest noted that she understands how important sports are for one's mental health, academic achievement, motivation, and physical well-being, but that we need to make certain sacrifices if we want to get back to a normal life.
Financial aid for businesses that will be affected by these new measures is expected to be announced in the coming days.
