Montreal street food festival Les Premiers Vendredis is back next month and will run longer

Your palate can travel to Asia, the Mediterranean and Latin America all summer.

One of Montreal's favourite summer food festivals, Les Premiers Vendredis, is back next month with a new extended schedule. As of June 7, the event will now run from Friday to Sunday on the first weekends of June, July, and August.

That means you have more chances to sample street food and unique flavours from around the world at the Esplanade du Parc Olympique and the Old Port's Quai de l'Horloge.

Each month will feature a different theme, with June focusing on Asian cuisine and culture. July will highlight Mediterranean dishes and customs, while August brings the popular "Fiesta Latina." The festival's expansion means more time to explore over 45 food vendors.

The event's artistic program includes performances co-created with local communities. June will feature Montreal's Filipino, Vietnamese, and other Asian cultural groups. The program spans three days: festive Fridays, cultural Saturdays, and family-friendly Sundays.

Confirmed food vendors for the first weekend include Boom J's, Paella Marisol, Kroffles, Teddy, Buboy, Mango Tropical, Lucille's Catering, and Le Roi du Taco Express. New participants like Tostadito, Alma Latina, Chez Boris and Teque Pancho will join the lineup in June, introducing fresh dishes to the festival.

Les Premiers Vendredis also has a new look this year, featuring a pelican as its mascot, designed by local artists Chien Champion and Isane Mag. The animal was chosen to represent "a gluttonous, well-traveled and sociable creature that reflects the festival's DNA," gathering communities around communal dining and cultural exchange.

Admission to the Esplanade du Parc Olympique will stay free, while entry to the Old Port's Quai de l'Horloge is $5 plus tax during the last edition. Most vendors will accept debit and credit cards. So all you really have to bring is your appetite.
