A Brossard restaurant lost its permit for a month and it's not their first MAPAQ fine

With that in mind, a popular Asian restaurant in Montreal's South Shore recently got its operating permit suspended for a full month, following repeated hygiene issues flagged by Quebec's food safety authority.
The Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation du Québec (MAPAQ) confirmed that Restaurant Impérial, a Chinese reception hall located on Taschereau Boulevard in Brossard, has been ordered to temporarily shut down after a recent inspection triggered by a public complaint.
According to MAPAQ protocol, inspectors can visit a food establishment at any time, either as part of routine checks or in response to complaints. When a risk to public health is found, the business must act quickly to fix it. In certain cases, like this one, the permit can be suspended outright.

While MAPAQ hasn't publicly detailed the specific violations behind the current suspension, public records on the ministry's website show Restaurant Impérial was fined a total of $4,500 in 2023 and 2024 for various infractions. Those included using equipment deemed unfit for food service and evidence of insects on the premises. The establishment shut its doors for a week to tackle the issue.
Restaurant Impérial confirmed to MTL Blog that they plan to reopen on May 17, once their current suspension has been lifted.
