A quarter of Canadian millennials say they’ll never be able to afford a home — but Quebecers still have some hope, according to an RBC survey.

The poll of 2,000 Canadians found that “despite 59% of respondents saying it is a sellers' market (up 21%, highest year-over-year jump), Quebecers are the most likely to consider buying a home in the next two years (36% versus 30% nationally).”

The survey found a number of reasons for why Quebecers seem set to lead the buying market, including low interest rates and the belief that house prices will continue rising.

Affordability is likely to be a challenge for prospective buyers as the study notes, “43% of all Quebecers believe most people will be priced out of the housing market in the next decade.”

Despite gloomy headlines about rising Montreal-area home prices, the study suggests 84% of Quebecer respondents still strongly consider property to be a good investment.
