As of July 27, 2020, the City of Montreal is making face masks mandatory in all indoor spaces including restaurants, bars, and retail shops.

Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante announced the news via a Facebook post on Monday evening.

Our intention is that the wearing of face coverings will be mandatory in public places closed as of July 27, as is the case for public transit.

Mayor Plante said that "any setbacks would be a disaster for human lives and for our economy."

As an example of a setback, this past weekend, Direction de santé publique de la Montérégie and Mile Public House bar in Brossard declared that several COVID-19 positive people were present inside and outside the establishment.

The Minister of Health and Social Services, Christian Dubé, recently told all bar owners that "if the rules are not respected, we will close your venue."
