As of June 8, following the approval of public health authorities, Quebec elementary and secondary school students in orange zones are able to attend class without wearing a mask. 

The rule only applies in classrooms, the ministry specified. Masks must be worn at all times "in common areas, when travelling in the corridors and in school transport."

The Ministry of Education said the decision to lift the mask requirement in class was due in part to the ongoing heatwave.

On Tuesday, the ministry also announced that "all staff in primary schools and secondary schools, located in the yellow and green regions, will no longer be required to wear the mask in class." 

Students and staff will still have to stay two metres away from each other, however, and there could still be Plexiglass barriers, as well.
