Quebecers Living Alone Are Still Allowed One Visitor In The Next Phase Of Lockdown

But curfew applies.
Senior Writer

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Quebecers living alone have been allowed one visitor at a time. With Quebec entering an even more intense phase of lockdown, you may be wondering if that's still the case.

The answer is yes, but there are changes to keep in mind.

Allowed: One visitor from another address for single individuals (the same person to limit social contacts)

Government of Quebec

As was previously the case, if you live alone you can have one visitor at a time from another address.

At different points in the pandemic, the government wasn't super clear about whether it must always be the same person.

But now the rules state that it should be "the same person to limit social contacts."

The government also says Quebecers are allowed to receive visits from one informal caregiver, individuals offering services or support, and labourers for planned work.

It's important to keep in mind that a curfew will be in place for the next leg of lockdown with fines of up to $6,000 for rule-breakers.

This means you should not leave your home — including for visits — between the hours of 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. beginning on Saturday, January 9.

The only exceptions are for "healthcare, humanitarian reasons, or to engage in priority work." For instance, a necessary visit from a caretaker could override curfew in some cases.

These measures are expected to be in effect until and including February 8.
