A table posted online shows the number of COVID-19 outbreaks in Montreal workplaces.

As of October 7, public health officials had identified a total of 51 such outbreaks, defined as an incident in which "two workers test positive for COVID-19 within a period of 14 days."

The workplace outbreaks resulted in a total of 159 infections on that date.

51 Montreal workplace outbreaks as of October 7

The table identifies the sectors where the outbreaks have occurred.

Restaurants, bars, gyms, hotels, motels, and temporary employment agencies led with just under half (25) of the total number reported.

They're followed by other businesses like retail and wholesale, boutiques, big-box stores, grocery stores, and pharmacies with a combined 12 outbreaks.

Construction, the wood industry, and hosiery and clothing accounted for three outbreaks each; the printing and publishing industry counted two; and metalwork, public administration, and communications, power transmission and utilities each saw one.

Not included on the list are "outbreaks in health care settings, municipal services (city and boroughs), the Montreal Fire Department, the SPVM, the SQ, daycare services and schools."
