Narcity Québec reports that the streak was actually a Starlink satellite. The satellites were highly visible above Montreal after 9 p.m. on May 26, according to the Starlink tracker.

Starlink, created by Elon Musk's SpaceX company, is a fleet of satellites intended to provide "high-speed, low latency broadband internet" to the world.

People might be shocked to see satellites so close to Earth, but this is by design.

According to Starlink's website, "Starlink satellites are over 60 times closer to Earth than traditional satellites, resulting in lower latency and the ability to support services typically not possible with traditional satellite internet."
