Quebec Isn't Going To Extend The Salary Bonus Program For Essential Workers
The government announced Wednesday that it's not going to extend the program that gave a salary bonus to some Quebec essential workers.
Under the Incentive Program to Retain Essential Workers (IPREW), some essential workers could have received up to $1,600 in total to make up the difference between their pay and the amount given by the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) to people whose jobs were impacted by the health crisis.

This decision is attributable to a context that is no longer the same as when the IPREW was created.

The application period officially ended on July 4, but qualifying individuals who performed work between March 15 and that date can still submit an application on the Revenu Québec website until November 15.
The government says it made the decision not to extend the program because the economic context has changed.
"We put in place this temporary program to ensure that essential service workers who choose to remain at work to meet the needs of the population are not financially penalized compared to those who benefit from the CERB," Eric Girard, Minister of Finance, said in a statement.
