Good news, travellers! If you were one of the unfortunate passengers involved in the Sunwing "champagne" saga between 2014 and 2017, you could be eligible for some serious travel discounts in the future!

That's because thousands of Quebecers can now qualify for a discount on unlimited Sunwing trips over the next few years, as part of a recent class action settlement agreement over the infamous "champagne" drama.

If you took a flight with Sunwing between February 10, 2014, and April 30, 2017, listen up! As part of a class action settlement, the airline is offering Quebec residents a 7% discount on future trips due to misleading advertising in their “champagne” campaigns.

The class action lawsuit claimed that Sunwing used the term “champagne” in their ads but actually served sparkling wine on board—and only on the outbound flight. This didn't fly with Quebec's consumer protection laws, leading to a settlement agreement approved last year.

The final approval hearing for the settlement was originally scheduled for October 31, 2022, and the airline agreed to offer a settlement without admitting any wrongdoing. Following a few bumps in the process, Champlain Lawyers confirmed in September 2024 that the settlement website was now live and accepting registrations.

Under the terms of the settlement, Quebec residents who purchased, obtained, or travelled on a Sunwing flight or vacation package that was advertised using the word “champagne” during the specified dates can now get a 7% discount voucher for future Sunwing bookings. The discount can be used on a variety of flights and vacation packages, and the best part? There are no blackout periods or restrictions for the next three years!

If you're eligible, not only can you use this discount an unlimited amount of times over the next three years, you can also extend the discount to up to five friends or family members travelling with you. Whether you’re planning a beach getaway or a tropical escape, this deal could help you save big on your next trip.

To take advantage of the discount, you'll need to verify your status with Sunwing by filling out a claim form on their website. The deadline to submit your claim is November 4, 2024.

No proof of purchase is required, but you need to have purchased or traveled on a qualifying Sunwing flight or vacation package advertised as part of the "champagne" promotion.

The settlement has been designed to benefit a large number of Quebecers, and it's a win for consumers who felt misled by the airline’s advertising.

Sunwing hasn't admitted to any wrongdoing but agreed to the settlement to resolve the false advertising allegations. So, if you think you’re eligible, don't wait—head over to Sunwing’s website and claim your discount before the deadline!
