On October 7, 2023, the Village is hosting one final summer-style blowout before Montreal's rue Sainte-Catherine reopens to cars.

The Société de développement commercial (SDC) du Village, in collaboration with the borough of Ville-Marie, is offering an all-night extravaganza where 20 Montreal establishments on rue Sainte-Catherine E and Atateken will join in on the fun.

Raise a glass for Montreal bars. Two local drinkeries, the Atwater Cocktail Club and Cloakroom, have made it onto the 2023 edition of the North America 50 Best Bars list, ranking 32nd and 35th, respectively.

There are a total of seven Canadian entries in the latest ranking. The U.S. leads with 28. Mexico follows with 14. Only one bar in the Caribbean made the list.

Each year, 50 Best publishes lists of the top bars in the world — this year, Montreal got a pitiful zero entries on that list, despite boasting myriad mixologists and plenty of well-loved watering holes. But in North America, the city has a better shot. Two Montreal bars made it to the 2022 50 Best bars in North America, and those in the know won't be surprised by who made the cut.

Highest-up for Montreal is El Pequeño, coming in 29th place. El Pequeño is a classic Cuban bar which opened in 2018 in Montreal's Old Port. Its name translates to "The Small One," which is apt considering the bar's 150 square foot interior. It was co-designed by a cabinet maker, which makes sense — it's not much bigger than a swanky walk-in closet!

The long-awaited, nationally recognized gothic pop-up bar series Black Lagoon has finally landed in Montreal, and MTL Blog got a firsthand look at what the final version looked like, complete with creepy custom glassware and a bespoke Rob Zombie-filled playlist.

Last time we visited the Black Lagoon, it was partially set up as a preview of the main event. Co-creator of the entire nine-bar series, Kelsey Ramage, told MTL Blog in August that there would be a stand-up coffin, a smoke machine and even a creepy hidden area taking advantage of the space in the host bar, Bar 132 Vintage.
