It looks like Montreal–Trudeau Airport and Canadian airlines have some serious catching up to do when it comes to flight delays. A new global ranking of the most on-time airlines and airports in 2024 has been revealed — and let's just say it's not a good look for Canada's aviation industry.

Cirium, a global aviation analytics company, revealed the winners of its 2024 On-Time Performance Review on Thursday, highlighting airlines and airports around the world that excelled in on-time performance last year.

Montreal Airport might not always get the best rap, but a new ranking of Canadian airports may have just brought YUL's reputation to a new low.

A new study by CasinosHunter crunched the numbers to reveal Canada's best and worst airports for 2025, and we're willing to bet the results aren't what you expect.

Canada's busiest airports didn't do so hot in a new ranking, and Montreal's Trudeau International Airport was no exception.

According to J.D. Power's 2024 North America Airport Satisfaction Study, Canada's major hubs fell embarrassingly low in terms of customer satisfaction, especially compared to their U.S. counterparts.

Travelling through security at some Canadian airports is about to get easier, thanks to new technology being rolled out by the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA).

On Wednesday, September 18, CATSA announced its plans to install advanced computed tomography (CT) technology at security screening checkpoints at multiple Canadian airports over the next few years.

On October 1, 2022, COVID-19 testing requirements, quarantine and isolation rules, and the mandatory use of the ArriveCan app for travellers were axed entirely by the Government of Canada. However, one COVID-19 travel rule is now making a comeback for travellers from China.

The federal government released a statement on Saturday announcing a temporary rule requiring travellers arriving on flights originating from mainland China, Hong Kong or Macao to provide a negative COVID-19 test before entering Canada.

WestJet announced early on July 14 that an outage is affecting the airline's airport check-in, flight planning and payment services in airports across Canada and abroad — a situation that is causing major flight delays.

This only adds further salt to travellers' wounds, with many hit by flight delays and cancellations by many Canadian and other airlines or stuck in airport lineups, or lineups to get passports in order to travel.

As part of Léger's 25th edition of its annual Reputation study, Montreal Trudeau International took the third spot when it came to the list of most reputable airports in Canada in 2022, according to Canadians.

While it's no secret that airports across Canada are seeing a surge of travellers and meteoric wait times, so much that Canada has stopped random COVID-19 testing in airports to speed things up, Montreal appears to be doing something right.

The federal government created a simplified process for Canadian passport renewals and applications – although the lengthy and ongoing hold-up suggests things haven’t been nearly as simple as planned.

With Canadian airport wait times reaching ridiculous heights, so much that Transport Canada has eliminated random COVID-19 testing at the Montreal airport, it seems as if anything travel-related has become a headache.

After weeks of reports of extreme wait times in security and customs lines at Canadian airports, federal Transport Minister Omar Alghabra gave an update on May 27 on progress toward actually doing something about it, including hiring more CATSA officers and, at Pearson in Toronto, increasing the number of CBSA kiosks for inbound international travellers.

"The Government of Canada recognizes the impact that significant wait times at some Canadian airports are having on travellers," Alghabra said in the statement.

The chief medical officers of health for Air Canada, Toronto Pearson and WestJet put out an open letter calling on the government to stop requiring COVID-19 arrival testing in Canadian airports and rather allocate the resources for where they're needed most: in our communities.

"Over the last two months, Omicron has quickly become the predominant variant of COVID-19," says the open letter. "As it spreads throughout our communities, we need to ensure Canada's limited testing resources are being used where Canadians need them most—to support our communities, schools, hospitals and long-term care homes."

Various Canadian airports have warned that wait times may now be longer than usual due to enhanced health measures and increased testing. But if you're planning to fly into Canada anytime soon, there's a way for you to save some time upon arrival: by registering in advance for COVID-19 testing.

In a tweet on December 21, the federal government reminded all travellers that they "should expect to be tested on arrival to Canada." And yes, this includes individuals who are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 — even those who have received their booster shots.
