Environment Canada confirmed that Quebec was hit by four tornadoes on June 21.

While the tornado in Mascouche had the highest Enhanced Fujita scale rating, resulting in one death and extensive damage on the North Shore, three other tornados impacted different parts of Quebec on the same day.

Starting in September, all high school students in Quebec will have five extra hours of school time each week for extracurricular activities.

Minister of Education Isabelle Charest made the announcement in a June 18 press conference. She said schools in Quebec will decide what to offer during the daily extracurricular school hour, as well as when to offer it during the day.

According to new data from the Institut de la statistique du Québec, the province gained 105,000 high-paying jobs that are paying $30/hour or more despite a loss of 275,000 salaried jobs that paid less than $20/hour.

Several groups benefitted from this increase in high-paying jobs including people with bachelor's degrees, immigrants, and non-unionized people.

Quebec's minimum wage is set to increase to $13.50 an hour on May 1, which — as a reminder — is Saturday. 

This is an increase of 40 cents or 3.1% according to the Retail Council of Canada. For tip workers, the minimum wage will increase by 35 cents to $10.80 an hour.
