This weird AF Montreal burger was just crowned 3rd best in all of Canada
Le Burger Week 2024 has officially wrapped up, which means burger creations from five Montreal restaurants have been crowned the best in the city. One of them was even named among the top five burgers in all of Canada — a surprising outcome given its unusual ingredients (but more on that later).
The annual food festival, which took place from September 1 to 8 this year, gives chefs across the country total freedom to craft the most mouthwatering burger masterpieces they can come up with. Then, the nation's burger lovers taste the competing dishes and vote on their favourites.
This 13th edition saw hundreds of restaurants participate in Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto, Ottawa, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Winnipeg, and Saskatoon.
From classic cheeseburgers to daring gourmet concoctions, here are the beefy delights that came out on top in Montreal, as voted by the public (in order):
- Le Gras Dur's Banana Split Burger
- Restaurant Paulo et Suzanne's Spicy Burger 3D
- Patty Slaps' Bacon Blaze
- Casse-croute MangeDansMonHood's Aloha
- Chez Simon Cantine Urbaine's Zestee Big Marty
Le Burger Week creations are generally limited edition so, if you want to try one of the winning burgs, you may be out of luck. That said, they can sometimes turn into longer-term menu items. Plus, even if a particular burger is off the menu, each one of these local restaurants offers various bold, beefy options year-round.
In terms of the best burgers in the whole country, two Quebec spots made the top five: the Cheese Bacon Brisket Burger from BBQ Québec Smokehouse in Quebec City (number two) and Montreal's champion Banana Split Burger from Le Gras Dur.
Sitting in third place nationwide, the Banana Split Burger is made with Angus AAA Beef, cheese, fried banana, Nutella, maple syrup, and red pepper jelly between two French toast buns. Yes, it's an objectively weird combination — but who says weird can't taste delicious?!
While the Gras Dur team told MTL Blog their Banana Split Burger is not currently available, they teased its return, stating that "it will come back soon at our new location opening in October." They also encouraged foodies to follow their social media pages for updates.
