Public health is officially recommending that Quebecers of all ages wear a mask in crowded public places, with the exception of schools and daycares, amid an uptick in viral diseases. Health Minister Christian Dubé made the announcement Wednesday.

Quebec’s Collège des médecins has called current outbreaks of the flu and RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) in children and the continuing circulation of COVID-19 a "triple threat." Dubé said Wednesday that the circumstances have made the health system particularly "fragile."

Since July 2020, the Quebec government has made masks across the province mandatory in all public places. Well, nearly two years later, the COVID-19 Quebec mask mandate has officially been dropped.

While it was originally meant to be lifted in mid-April, the mask mandate in Quebec was extended following a bump in cases during the virus' sixth wave.

Uber Canada is officially removing its mandatory mask mandate for drivers and passengers across the country... well, not entirely. As of April 22, Uber Canada will no longer require masks to be worn when using the service everywhere in Canada except Quebec.

In a statement emailed to MTLBlog by Uber's Quebec Public Affairs Manager Jonathan Hamel, this decision falls in line with the current public health guidelines across Canada.

Marie-Pier Labelle says she's willing to risk thousands of dollars in fines to see her customers smile again. The owner of L'Assomption juice and smoothie bar Nutrition Xtreme announced on February 15 that she's making masks optional inside the store despite the Quebec mask mandate, which makes face-coverings mandatory in indoor or enclosed spaces.

Nutrition Xtreme employees will keep wearing their masks, Labelle said.

A Quebec business says it's making masks optional for customers even though the province still requires face coverings in indoor or enclosed spaces. The Journal de Montréal was the first to report this story.

"Whether you wear your mask or not, the important thing is to feel good," L'Assomption juice and smoothie bar Nutrition Xtreme wrote in a February 12 Facebook post. It assured that employees will continue to wear masks.
