People in Montreal now have another option for getting around town, and it comes with a sweet launch deal.

Lyft officially rolled into Montreal and Quebec City on June 17, stepping into the rideshare space to directly compete with Uber. To celebrate the launch, the company is offering 50% off your first five rides (up to $10 per trip) if you sign up with the promo code QUEBEC — valid for 14 days after you join.

If a tourist asked you to recommend the top party cities in Canada, chances are Montreal would be at the top of your list. But based on recent data from Uber, you'd be incorrect.

According to the third annual edition of Uber Canada's Nightlife Index, Montreal doesn't even crack the top 10 party cities in Canada for 2024. (Umm, are you okay there, Uber? Did you have one too many drinks yourself?)

The top cities in Canada to party in were ranked and not a single Quebec destination made the list.

Uber Canada released its annual Nightlife Index report, detailing the nightlife habits of Canadians throughout the year and when it comes to the best city to party in, Montreal was nowhere to be found.

Uber riders in Quebec have a knack for leaving behind more than just their inhibitions on a night out. The latest Uber Lost and Found Index reveals some pretty unusual items that have been forgotten in vehicles across the province.

While some objects were pretty run-of-the-mill, such as laundry, vapes and wallets, others were more peculiar, like a photo of Tupac Shakur and a whole chicken (we can only hope it wasn't clucking around in the back seat). A blue grinder, guitar and white stool were also left behind.

Uber Canada is re-launching its ride-share service in three major Canadian cities and your fare is about to get a whole lot cheaper. On February 5, 2023, Uber Canada announced that it would be launching UberX Share (previously known as UberPool) in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.

UberPool paused back in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and Uber has been working on revamping the experience with months of listening to driver and rider feedback, designing new features, testing and troubleshooting UberX Share but now, it's officially a go.

Though many might assume Montreal has the best (only?) nightlife in Quebec, Uber strongly disagrees. The ride-hailing company published its first "Nightlife Index," ranking the best Canadian party cities. On the national level, the 514 didn't even make the list. In Quebec, Montreal ranks third.

So WTF happened? The company based the results on the volume of trips (as a proportion of a city's total rides) completed between 10:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. The winning municipality was Sherbrooke followed by Quebec City.

Montreal has amazing nightlife. Many would claim it's the best city in Canada for a wild night out. Well, apparently not. Uber Canada has published what it calls its "Nightlife Index" for the first time, and while Toronto didn't score the top spot, Montreal didn't even make the list. Simply shocking.

According to the ranking, the best cities to party in Canada are, in ascending order, London, Toronto and Kitchener-Waterloo followed by Kingston and Saskatoon.

Record-high fuel costs are walloping the wallets of Montreal motorists with no end in sight. For rideshare and delivery drivers the impact is especially acute — and that means Uber and Uber Eats customers could soon see a rise in rates to reduce the financial strain on gas-dependent gig workers.

"[Our] temporary fuel surcharge remains in effect. We will continue to monitor the gas price situation over the coming weeks and may make changes to the surcharge," Quebec Public Affairs Manager for Uber Jonathan Hamel told MTL Blog.

Uber Canada is officially removing its mandatory mask mandate for drivers and passengers across the country... well, not entirely. As of April 22, Uber Canada will no longer require masks to be worn when using the service everywhere in Canada except Quebec.

In a statement emailed to MTLBlog by Uber's Quebec Public Affairs Manager Jonathan Hamel, this decision falls in line with the current public health guidelines across Canada.

The convenience that comes with Uber and Uber Eats remains unmatched, however, it seems as if prices are going up! Uber Canada released a press release on March 11 stating that an additional fee will be implemented as of March 16 to all customers due to the increase in fuel costs across the country.

Considering gas prices have hit all-time highs in Quebec, it's no surprise that Uber is moving forward with a new temporary fee for users to pay as a fuel surcharge.
