About a month ago, the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) announced it would be pulling all U.S.-made alcohol from its stores in response to the 25% tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. As of today, that promise is finally kicking in.

The tariffs, along with Canada's planned countermeasures, were initially set to take effect in February but were delayed after a temporary agreement between Trump and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. However, negotiations have fallen through, and as of midnight on March 4, 2025, the heavy tariffs are officially in place.

Quebecers might not see American liquor on the shelves for quite some time. The Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) will be pulling all U.S.-made alcohol from its stores this week in response to the 25% tariffs recently imposed by Donald Trump's administration.

Heads up, Quebec! The SAQ just announced that bottle prices are set to increase in February and March, so now's the time to plan that booze run if you want to save some cash.

According to a January 28 press release, the first price hike will hit the liquor store's shelves on February 16 and will impact most products sold at the SAQ. The increase is due to several factors, including higher transportation costs, updated fees for recycling programs and the end of the temporary GST holiday — which began on December 14.
