Montreal has much to be proud of after being ranked as one of the best cities in the world to travel to in 2024. Lonely Planet released its annual list of the best cities to travel to and Montreal didn't just make the cut, but it was the only Canadian city to appear on the ranking.

Lonely Planet listed 10 of the most sought-after destinations, which include travel hotspots such as Paris, Jakarta, Nairobi, Prague, Manaus, and of course…Montreal.

The most interesting places in the world were recently ranked and two Canadian cities managed to make the cut.

Explore, a travel tour company located in the United Kingdom ranked the Most Interesting Places in the World. Explore's data experts analyzed 1.2 million articles on Wikipedia, which are coded with a ‘primary location’ for this study. The locations were then reverse geocoded to reveal the country and closest city of each location. Next, the primary locations were given an “Interest Weighting Score” (IWS) and applied to the U.S. Canada, U.K., and Australia.

Explore, a travel tour company located in the United Kingdom, created a shortlist of the most visually unforgettable experiences for travellers across the globe. The travel operator narrowed the list of over 1,000 UNESCO World Heritage sites down to 52 based on how recognizable they are, ensuring landmarks from each continent were included. Explore then conducted a study where participants were shown the shortlisted landmarks and through eye-tracking technology, determined which UNESCO sites yielded the most attention.
