2020 has been the year that none of us could have ever seen coming. Crazy things happened and there were so many terms and phrases Quebecers had never heard before.

Here in Quebec, we heard some pretty serious and some pretty ridiculous things, but I think we can all agree that there are some things that we are quite excited to never have to say again.

Although if we're being honest, the one phrase we've all been using is "WTF."

This isn't to say that everything will magically disappear come January 1, but we're hopeful that by this time next year, some if not all of these phrases will be things of the past and "so-2020."

Red Zone

Quebec may look like one of those colour-in maps we used to do in grade school, but I'll be honest, I'm quite excited for Quebec to be all one colour again: the colour of non-COVID.

Lockdown

We may not have been in as strict of a lockdown as other places around the world, but the lockdown restrictions have definitely been hard on everyone. Especially for small businesses. Quebec is a place filled with talent, creativity and a joie de vivre. This has been totally frustrating.

Unprecedented Times

Let's be real. No one pre-pandemic ever thought to themselves, "Wow, these sure are some precedented times." I never even knew they existed. Let alone unprecedented ones.

Ça va bien aller

This isn't to say that "It will be OK/It will get better/whatever translation you prefer" isn't a nice thought. It is. But can it just be better already? I know that sounds impatient, but still. I do like rainbows though...

Bonjour-HO!

This one just... yeah. We all have our own feelings towards it. I don't think people Bloc Québécois will live this one down for a while. Maybe ever.

"Wanna Zoom?"

Zoom may be a great way to stay connected, but let's just admit that nothing beats meeting in person. Plus, any convo with more than three people is just a constant mix of "What? No, no, you go first" and not knowing where to look. Bonus points if you admit you spend the entire time looking at yourself on the screen!

Social Distancing

Social distancing is SO important and we all need to do our part to help flatten the curve. But I'm just going to come out and say it: I am so excited for the day where the only social I'm doing is at a 5 à 7 and the only distance I'm doing is on a plane to a faraway destination.

But the most social distancing we do the sooner we can do both!

Conference de presse sur la COVID-19

Staying informed is important, of course. But, here's to hoping all will be resolved and we won't have to be tuning in every day to see what new rules the government is coming up with in 2021.

2020

2020 will forever be known as the year of WTF. Between the pandemic, natural disasters and everything in between, it feels like everyone was on edge just waiting for the next bad thing to happen. No one knows if 2021 will be better than this year, but at least the "curse" of 2020 will feel like it's over.
