François Legault Said He's Not Ruling Out The Idea Of Quebec Going Into Total Confinement

"We are monitoring the pandemic on a daily basis."

Premier François Legault is not ruling out putting Quebec back into total lockdown, as he did last March when the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic was happening.

This was brought up during an announcement concerning new environmental projects, this Tuesday, December 8, at the Palais des Congrès.

Mr. Legault said his team is "following the evolution of the pandemic on a daily basis," and determining whether they should "go further" with their constraints.

We are not excluding anything, but there is no decision being made at this time to do more to shut down the economy.

Premier François Legault

As when he announced his "moral contract," François Legault invites employers who can afford it to prioritize work from home and to close for the holidays.

During last spring's lockdown, all non-essential businesses, such as shopping malls and hair salons, to name a few, had to close their doors.

The premier also recently rescinded the red zone "moral contract" that he had presented to the population.

As a result, Quebecers in red zone regions will not be able to celebrate Christmas in small gatherings of 10 people.

From December 1 to 7, the province counted an average of about 1,598 daily cases of COVID-19.
