A man is in the hospital after being shot in the lower body in Old Montreal Monday morning. Police were called to the area after "many gunshots" were heard near rue Gosford at around 3:15 a.m., SPVM media relations officer Jean-Pierre Brabant said.

The man, aged 29, had sustained "at least" one gunshot wound. He was arrested and is considered "suspect," Brabant explained.

Two men aged 25 years old and a man aged 36 years old were also arrested.

Police said they found shells on rue Saint-Louis and "officers were able to seize a firearm on site," said Brabant. As of 5:15 a.m., investigators were still on-site.

Due to the large police perimeter in the area, the police spokesperson said it's "a sector to avoid this morning."

"The exit of Saint-Laurent of the [autoroute] 136 and will be closed this morning for at least a couple of hours."
