Harris attended Westmount High School after her mother, Dr. Shyamala Harris got a position at the Jewish General Hospital and McGill University.

In her memoir, The Truths We Hold: An American Journey, Harris was honest about her mixed feelings about living in Quebec.

She wrote that she struggled with French and shared that she always felt a "yearning" to return to the United States.

She would go on to attend Howard University in Washington, D.C.
