Gisèle Lévesque said that she was "very proud" to be the first person to get the COVID-19 vaccine in Quebec in an interview with the provincial health ministry Monday morning.

Lévesque also shared a positive message of hope with all Quebecers, asking them to trust the health rules and have hope.

"Respect the health rules and respect the vaccine, most importantly, so that the virus disappears and to help everyone get through this," said Lévesque.

"I'm positive that it will get better."

She said she got vaccinated for her nieces and with young people in mind.

In an Instagram post, Premier François Legault praised the 89-year-old and said that "we see the light at the end of the tunnel."

Lévesque echoed the Premier's statement. "I wish it so that all the [health care workers] can relax a little bit," she said, thanking them for all their hard work throughout the pandemic.
