On Monday, the first COVID-19 vaccines arrived in Quebec and the first people are being vaccinated. The first person vaccinated this morning, according to Premier Legault, was Gisèle Lévesque, a resident at the Centre d'hébergement Saint-Antoine in Quebec City.

According to the Health Ministry, the 89-year-old Quebecer was vaccinated at around 11:25 a.m. on December 14.

Premier François Legault highlighted Lévesque in an Instagram post. Quebec is planning to vaccinate residents in long-term care homes and health care workers first.

"We see the light at the end of the tunnel," wrote Legault, "let's stay hopeful!"

In Montreal, the first vaccines will be distributed at the Donald-Berman Maimonides Geriatric Centre.

4,000 doses of the vaccine, enough to vaccinate 2,000 people, arrived in the province on Monday after much anticipation.

Quebec hopes to have 22,000 to 28,000 Quebecers vaccinated by January 4, 2021.

Health Minister Chrisitan Dubé explained on December 7 that there will be a vaccine centre in "one for each of our 16 regions, and in the region of Montreal four sites, and in Montérégie, two sites."
