This Quebec Seafood Shack With Giant Lobster Rolls Is A Must-Stop On Your Way To Gaspésie

On the shores of the St. Lawrence River, between Rimouski and Matane, there is a small snack bar in the town of Sainte-Flavie that just might awaken the seafood lover in you. La Cantine Sainte-Flavie is the food stop you need to add to your bucket list if you're planning to travel to the Gaspé Peninsula or simply spend a weekend in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region.

A menu of lobster, shrimp, crabs, and fries draws many a weary traveller and peckish vacationer to this little shack.

But the famous lobster roll steals the show.

The hot dog bun is so stuffed with meaty lobster, you'll probably have to use a fork so you don't drop half of it on yourself.

The shrimp poutine is also sure to attract attention (and maybe raise a few poutine purists' eyebrows) with its mountain of crustaceans atop an already impressive pile of fries.

Many other items are also on the menu if you're not a seafood person. Hot dogs, hamburgers, salads, more traditional poutines, and club sandwiches are just some of the dishes you can order.

Most of the online reviews are stellar, too.

Most encourage other travellers to try the lobster roll, but others praise the fast and friendly service.

"Lobster roll more than generous and what can we say about the team! A must even for the locals," wrote one Facebook reviewer.

"As far as we're concerned, it was worth the 6-hour drive!" another said.

The magnificent view of the river only heightens this food experience.

If you eat on-site, you'll be able to sit at one of the tables while admiring the waters just beyond the path that stretch as far as the eye can see.

This lovely canteen is open Thursday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and is closed the rest of the week.

It's totally worth the adjustment to your travel itinerary.
