Statistics Canada Is Hiring In Quebec For Help With The Census With Pay Up To $51,000

The agency is hiring across the province.
Staff Writer

If you're looking for a career change and are worried that you might not be experienced enough for a high-paying job, Statistics Canada has the perfect job for you.

The federal agency is hiring administrative assistants across Quebec to help out with the upcoming 2021 Census. All you need to know how to do is use a computer! And the pay isn't too shabby either.

Through the online posting, Statistics Canada says it's aiming to develop a "pool of qualified candidates."

Applicants may also "be used to staff similar positions for the 2021 Census in various locations, various linguistic profiles, tenures, security clearances and/or conditions of employment."

What does the Statistics Canada job entail?

As an administrative assistant at Statistics Canada, you'll be helping out with the 2021 Census, which is "designed to provide information about people and housing units in Canada by their demographic, social and economic characteristics."

Working from home, you'll be responsible for communicating with your team and meeting various deadlines.

Your day-to-day responsibilities may vary and you'll primarily be responsible for various general office tasks.

Your new job will happen exclusively on a computer, so you should be familiar with its basic functions. If you have experience in customer service or scheduling meetings, that's just a bonus.

What are the job requirements?

Other than knowing how to use a computer, you'll need to have successfully completed two years of secondary school or have "an acceptable combination of education and experience" to be considered for the position.

Statistics Canada is looking for potential employees who have keen attention to detail, can manage their time, can communicate effectively with team members in both English and French, and can quickly learn how to use computer software.

You also need to live within 80 kilometres of the government office that hires you. In Quebec, Statistics Canada is looking for candidates from Tadoussac to Montreal.

To apply, you need an updated resume plus two reference contacts.

What is the pay and are there benefits?

The position is temporary and runs from October 2020 to August 2021. Applications close on October 31, 2020.

For your efforts, a salary between $47,729 to $51,518 — depending on experience — is up for grabs.

No health or pension benefits are attached to this position.
