Montreal was named one of the best cities in the world but one Canadian spot ranked higher

Don't worry, it's not Toronto. 😅

Two Canadian spots were just named among the best cities in the world.

Canada's reputation as a top international travel destination just got a major boost, thanks to two Canadian cities landing on a new list of the world's best for 2024.

A new ranking from Condé Nast Traveler's 2024 Readers' Choice Awards crowned two Canadian cities among the top 10 best big cities in the world to travel to, and with stunning cities from across the globe vying for spots on the list, that's a huge win for Canada as a whole — even if Toronto did get left in the dust.

In this year's rankings, Vancouver claimed the number-six spot, while Montreal landed at number nine. Vancouver's no stranger to this list, having been ranked as number eight in last year's awards, but it's an especially big deal for Montreal, which didn't make the cut last year.

These two cities beat out major global travel hubs like London, Paris, Amsterdam, Rome and New York, giving Canadians something to boast about when it comes to world-class travel destinations. In fact, Canada is the only country with more than one city on this year's list!

The rankings are based on votes from over 575,000 Condé Nast Traveler readers across the globe. So, if you're planning your next adventure and wondering where to visit in Canada, Vancouver and Montreal are clearly top contenders.

Here's the full list of the top 10 best cities for 2024:

  1. Tokyo, Japan
  2. Singapore
  3. Sydney, Australia
  4. Cape Town, South Africa
  5. Vienna, Austria
  6. Vancouver, Canada
  7. Madrid, Spain
  8. Copenhagen, Denmark
  9. Montreal, Canada
  10. London, UK

Along with this year's best "small" cities crowning Victoria, B.C., in the top spot, this ranking really cements Canada as a must-visit for city lovers. Whether you're looking for the Europe-meets-North America vibes of Montreal or the breathtaking scenery of Vancouver, there's no shortage of reasons to explore Canada.

Sorry, Toronto. Maybe next year!
