Bored at home? Looking for a way to escape our hellish reality? Meet PHI VR TO GO, a service where Montrealers can rent OCULUS GO virtual reality headsets that come pre-loaded with immersive movies.
The PHI Centre released its second movie series in early January, allowing Montrealers to experience travelling the world as well as alternate universes — all from the comfort of their couches.
PHI VR TO GO launched at the start of the pandemic when cultural centres were forced to close their doors due to COVID-19, according to Myriam Achard, PHI's chief of public relations.
The centre's first 10-video series focused on discovering the world through virtual travel.
Its 2021 program, Imaginary Tales, is a series of fantastical and often experimental animated films produced by Atlas V.
Through the different programs, you can go on a wide variety of virtual adventures — from experiencing ayahuasca to climbing Mount Everest to wandering around China.
All equipment loans are currently delivered and picked up by the PHI Centre and disinfected with a sanitizing machine.
There are no plans to axe VR TO GO post-pandemic — the program has been extended to residents of Paris and Quebec City, said Achard.
