As the pandemic batters the province, Quebec is offering scholarships to nursing students who volunteer to help out in the health network.

Students in Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs who have a diploma of collegial studies in nursing are invited to pause their studies and volunteer their services between January 17 and May 8, 2021.

The need for nurses has never been greater

Health Minister Christian Dubé

The students who participate must plan to return to school in the fall 2021 or winter 2022 semesters.

The taxable scholarships will be up to $13,500 for full-time students and $6,750 for part-time students.

"With this new measure, we are calling on nursing students to come and support our existing teams," Health Minister Christian Dubé said in a statement.

"Volunteers will be welcome: their invaluable help over the coming months will help us better meet the needs of patients, whether they have COVID-19 or other health problems."

"Students wishing to participate in this measure must express their interest at their university before January 11, 2021," the government explains in a press release.

The scholarships will go out when the students return to school.
