As construction on the REM progresses, it's looking more and more obvious that riding the REM is guaranteed to give you the most breathtaking views of Montreal. Since the city's new transit system travels mostly above ground, passengers that are seated towards the large front-facing bay windows will be treated to superb cityscapes that are sure to fill Instagram feeds around the world. According to the REM, its cars have been designed for this very purpose.

With five unique viewpoints, the trains will have photographers from far and wide clamouring for views of those legendary Montreal sunsets as the REM makes its way across the Samuel de Champlain Bridge.

There are still a few more years of construction left but that doesn't mean we can't be super excited about this!

"The REM is the most important public transit project in Montreal in the past 50 years," said Jean-Vincent Lacroix, communication director at the REM.

"It will change the way people will transit in the city."

The first cars are planning to roll out for testing as early as fall 2020. By 2023, the REM will welcome its first passengers.

Public transit in Montreal will never be the same.

Coming in from the south, REM riders will first be treated to a spectacular view of Montreal's skyline as they cross the river

Soon after, downtown will come into full view from Pointe-Sainte-Charles and will open into the city's historic industrial sector.

After cutting through downtown, the REM will loop into a striking view from Mount Royal from the north. And finally, a lovely bridge view on the North Shore crossing eases riders into the last leg of their journey to Deux-Montagnes.

"The ideal station for stopping and taking iconic shots of Montréal will be Griffintown-Bernard-Landry," said the REM.

The REM tells MTL Blog that "thanks to its large front bay window, one of the largest in the world for a light metro, and from the overhead structure, the REM will be Montreal's new 'belvedere.'"

As construction continues, much progress has been made on the 15-metre structure that will tower above the Pointe.
