Here's What You Need To Know About The 2 Montreal Queens In Canada's Drag Race

We've got a good feeling about Rita Baga and Kiara...
Contributing Writer

Move over, Céline. There are some new Quebec queens in town — just kidding, we still love you Céline. But to make the ranks of the queen, herself, you've got to perform, perform, perform. And our two Montreal queens in Canada's Drag Race, Rita Baga and Kiara, do exactly that.

It's hard to believe that we're already in our second week of Canada's Drag Race and I'm happy to say our girls are off to a great start.

Editor's Choice: 13 Spontaneous Day Trips That Are Less Than 2 Hours Away From Montreal

When it comes to drag, it's not only entertaining, but it is a true craft. Yes — while I still don't know the proper way to put on eyeliner, these queens make all of their creations look so simple, yet like a work of art.

A big part of Drag Race is getting to know the queens on a personal level. It gives the show a certain authenticity and emotion to it.

And because we know that Canadians are SO nice, I can't wait to see the sisterhood in the workroom... And maybe just a little drama.

So as you start to become obsessed with this new series, here are some facts you may or may not know about our Montreal royalty.

RITA BAGA

Her Real Name Is Jean-François Guèvremont

Journal de Montreal

Out of drag, Rita is, Jean-François Guèvremont, a Montreal native and UQM grad.

She's Been Doing Drag For 13 Years

Rita Baga is not only a legend in the Montreal drag scene, but across Canada. It started off as a present to a friend and 13 years later, she's a star.

She's The Programming Director for Fierté Montreal

Out of drag, Jean-François is the Programming Director of Fierté Montreal. Bringing that Rita Baga flair and creativity to Montreal's biggest celebration of the LGBTQ+ community.

She Does A Killer Adele Impression

Hello. It's... Rita. Like most drag queens, Rita does impressions and has become quite known for her impression of Adele.

Can we expect an Adele performance for Snatch Game?

She's The First-Ever Queen To Win A Challenge On Canada's Drag Race

It's impressive enough to win a challenge, but when it's the first of the entire series... It's a pretty big deal.

She's The First-Ever Queen In The Entire Franchise To Give A First Confessional In A Foreign Language

Any fan will know that one of the best parts of the show is the confessionals. Rita is the first to give her first confessional in another language... French, of course.

She's said, "it doesn't really matter the language that you speak. So long as you deliver."

She Gave Kiara Her First Gig

When the girls first saw each other in the workroom, they hugged and let the others know that Rita had given Kiara her first job here in Montreal.

We love the sisterhood.

She's Hosted Many Competitions, But This Is Her First Time Competing

Being such a legend in the Montreal drag scene, she's hosted many competitions, but this is her first time actually competing.

Something tells us that she knows what she's doing, though.

KIARA

Her Real Name Is Dimitri Nana-Côté

Originally from Quebec City, but now calls Montreal home.

She's A Regular At Cabaret Mado

Like Rita Baga, Kiara is a regular at Cabaret Mado, the famous Montreal drag bar by drag icon, Mado Lamotte.

She Got Her Drag Name From The Lion King II

Not only did she get her name from another franchise about another fierce creature, but she's also a Leo and loves lions.

She Studied Film Production At Concordia

No stranger in front of the camera, Dimitri officially graduated this year with a B.F.A in Film Production.

The queen has previously said, "Concordia helped me think about the bigger picture and develop into the artist that I am."

She Draws Inspiration From Fashion Magazines, Divas And Singers

Kiara draws inspiration from her own icons to create her look. C'est magnifique.

She's One Of The Youngest On The Show

At the time of filming, she was 22. The only person younger was Kyne, who was 21 at the time.

The queens range in age from 21-38. It may be intimidating to compete against more seasoned queens, but if there's one thing I've learned, it's to never underestimate a drag queen.

Bonne chance à nos reines.
