The highest increase in daily COVID-19 cases in Quebec since the start of the pandemic was just reported. The province saw 1,397 new cases within 24 hours as of November 7 at 4 p.m.

There have been nine new reported deaths related to the virus for the November 1 to 7 period, bringing the total death count to 6,440.

527 people are currently hospitalized in the province, four of which are new from the day before. However, there is one less person in intensive care; 77 compared to 78 on November 6.

1,397 New COVID-19 cases in Quebec on November 7

The spike comes just before the government is set to re-evaluate the current red zone extension, which was announced on October 26

Health Minister Christian Dubé tweeted on Sunday that Quebec is currently seeing an upward trend in coronavirus cases.

"The situation is very worrisome in certain regions," he added.

Quebec has now had a total of 114,820 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic.

Premier François Legault tweeted about the rise in cases between November 1 and 7, saying "Efforts must be made to reduce our contacts. Lives are at stake."
