A group of 28 co-workers from the Université de Montréal won the Lotto 6/49 jackpot and will split the whopping $5,000,0000 jackpot.

A McGill University student newspaper is scrubbing the school's founder from its name. Known as The McGill Tribune since 1981, the outlet will now publish simply as The Tribune. The editorial team is calling on the university to follow its lead.

"It was a gradual decision discussed over the course of the year internally, as the board editorialized on issues related to the university’s colonial practices and issues of systemic racism," Editor-in-Chief Madison McLauchlan told MTL Blog.

More than half of Montreal university students would pay less tuition if fees were divvied up by individual program. Undergraduates studying psychology would save over $1,000 per year, while those in administration, law and the humanities would save upward of $500 annually, according to a new study from the Montreal Economic Institute (MEI). But student groups warn such a change would lead to more inequality in the classroom.

"Psychology students should not have to pay a larger proportion of the costs of their education than those studying veterinary medicine," said Michel Poitevin, senior MEI fellow behind the study.

Some McGill University student groups are fighting the university's reopening plan.

The school's decision to return to in-person learning led the Social Work Student Association (SWSA), McGill Law Students' Association (LSA), and Education Graduate Students' Society (EGSS) to declare strikes. Faculty of Arts students are also considering a motion to support these strikes and oppose the reopening plan.

Montreal has been ranked the ninth-best city for students in the world, according to QS Quacquarelli Symonds, an international higher education network that analyzes education throughout the world. It tied with Boston and Paris for ninth place.

The city fell three spots in the 2022 best student city ranking compared to 2019, going from number six to number nine.
