As the air turns crisp and the leaves start to change, Quebec transforms into a breathtaking autumn wonderland. To fully experience this seasonal beauty, take advantage of Bonjour Québec’s interactive fall foliage map, which tracks the peak vibrancy of the leaves across the province.

"From mid-September to the end of October, our territory is adorned in a myriad of festive colours. This map follows the changes in the colours so you won't miss any of the show," states the Bonjour Québec website.

With May just around the corner, it's not too early to start planning your summer vacation. Where do you think you'll go?

Sure, international adventures are exciting. But there are also incredible tourist spots right here in our nation's own backyard. Travelling domestically within Canada can also save you from headaches, like needing to get a visa or pass through customs, and depending on your destination, it can sometimes save you time and money, too.

The top travel destinations for 2024 were ranked and only a select few spots across North America managed to make the cut, Quebec being one of them.

Condé Nast Traveler released its annual list of the Best Places To Visit in 2024 and Quebec wasn't the only Canadian city to make the list, but was, in fact, one of only five North American destinations to earn a spot on the ranking.

Travelling across Canada is an adventure in itself, but pronouncing some of its iconic destinations is another challenge altogether. Even former U.S. President Barack Obama once stumbled over "Mississauga" during a 2016 state dinner.

But Quebec is filled with plenty of its own tongue-twisting locales. Given its French heritage, it's no surprise some of its spots can be tricky for non-French speakers. However, even Quebec can't claim places with names as challenging as Pekwachnamaykoskwaskwaypinwanik Lake — a mouthful found in Manitoba.

The provincial government has announced a plan to make flights within Quebec cheaper and promote air service to more remote destinations. The plan includes a $500 limit on the price of round-trip intra-Quebec flights to select destinations in outlying regions. That price cap will take effect in the summer of 2022 once government subsidies kick in.

Following the announcement, the government released a map of the eligible air routes. They include direct flights from Montreal or Saint-Hubert to Mont-Joli in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region, Saguenay, Baie-Comeau, Sept-Îles, Chibougamau in the Nord-du-Québec region, Val-d'Or, Rouyn-Noranda, and, perhaps most excitingly, the Îles-de-la-Madeleine.

If you've always wanted to visit some of Quebec's natural wonders, like Rocher Percé or the aurora borealis, you'll be able to fly to those parts of the province for up to $500 roundtrip starting this June. More than twenty routes will be available at reduced rates, including ones to Gaspésie, Côte-Nord, and Îles-de-la-Madeleine. The provincial government announced a recovery plan for regional airlines on Tuesday with $261 million allocated over the next five years to cover lowering ticket costs.

"Our government believes access to the regions of Quebec is essential for their economic vitality. It is also necessary that Quebecers have access to affordable flights," said Minister of Transport François Bonnardel in a press release.

Canada may have announced that it would scrap PCR tests for travellers taking short trips of 72 hours or less, but according to Quebec business leaders, this isn't good enough to curb the toll that COVID-19 measures have taken on tourism.

The Canadian Travel and Tourism Roundtable, a coalition of representatives from those industries, along with other industry leaders in Quebec released a statement calling on the federal government to stop requiring fully vaccinated travellers to get PCR tests before re-entering Canada — regardless of how long they've been out of the country.

As Quebec unveils more details on its COVID-19 vaccine passport, tourists from out of province are still in the dark as to how the system — the only provincial vaccine passport to be announced in Canada so far — will impact them.

"I don't know how that'll work because we don't have vaccine passports," said Amanda Diodato, 28, a native Montrealer who's been living in Toronto for eight years. Diodato said she has parents, grandparents, friends, aunts and uncles in Montreal who she plans to visit.
