If you’ve been wanting a furry friend, now just might be the perfect time to welcome a new pet to the family. The Montreal SPCA is hosting a pay-what-you-can adoption event dubbed "Donate For Your Mate" day. Prospective adoptive animal parents can contribute as much or as little as they’re able.

With loads of animals up for adoption, including dogs, rabbits, birds and many other small animals, the Montreal SPCA is hoping to encourage the public to step up and provide a warm and loving home for its adorable animals, especially as the high season approaches — when the SPCA has an inflated number of animals up for adoption.

The SPCA posted a heartbreaking message across its socials on April 8, sharing that a total of 30 dogs were saved from a fire that broke out in St-Bernard-de-Lacolle, seven of which have been taken in by the Montreal SPCA and will soon be up for adoption.

According to the SPCA, a residence with 32 dogs caught fire on March 30 and local animal controllers and the home owner's worked together to try and save them all. Sadly, two dogs died in the flames.

Did you know it takes longer to find homes for black cats than for any other feline? The Montreal Animal Rescue Network made the claim in an October 28 tweet aiming to attract the attention of Montrealers in need of a furry feline friend to cuddle with this winter and beyond.

The no-kill shelter said that it will feature a different adoptable black cat every day until Halloween. So, hopefully, some loving witches and sorcerers will find their perfect purring match this spooky season.
