50 Cent's name was misspelled at his Beachclub show and it's the most Quebec mistake ever

Rapper and business mogul 50 Cent performed at Montreal's Beachclub over the weekend. But looking at the big block letters projected onto the stage behind him at the show, audience members would've noticed something unusual.

Appearing in front of a huge crowd — belting out classics including "Just A Lil Bit" and "In Da Club" — the hip hop artist's name flashed behind him. Except that it wasn't his name. It was a misspelling with an extra 's' added, turning him from 50 Cent into "50 Cents."

With photos emerging on social media, commenters have been calling this the kind of "silly" thing that could only happen in Quebec.

"Whoever added the S to 50 Cent was quebecois en tabarnark," reads a photo caption fom Montreal DJ Keith Dean. His post has hundreds of "likes" on his own Instagram page and even more on the MtlFlex TV Instagram page where it had garnered close to 7,000 "likes" at the time this was published.

In response, folks have been making good use of the comments sections, taking the incident as an opportunity to playfully poke fun at our city and our province's bilingual culture and language politics.

"Yall see what happens when yall try to ban a language …" wrote Instagrammer @coachjlouisdort.

Other comments suggest that "50 Cents" is at least "better than 50 sous" or that "50 cennes would've been good," referencing French words for cents or pennies.

Some people also called the situation "embarrassing," noting it was not a good look for Montreal.

Beachclub owner Olivier Primeau declined to provide a comment on the matter, but he did reply to MtlFlex TV's Keith Dean repost on Instagram.

"I am the one who asked to add [the S] because of inflation," Primeau wrote.

All in all, 50 Cent didn't seem too bothered by the mishap — if he even noticed it. The concert took place on July 7, the day after his birthday, and he capped off the night with celebrations at local supperclub Yoko Luna.

Posting about his time in Montreal, 50 Cent wrote, "Man my birthday [...] was the best this year, I had a ball in Canada. [...] Shit was on 10."

That said, he did perform for just 20 minutes before exiting the stage abruptly, without explanation, leaving fans disappointed — many of whom have been requesting their money back. However, the reason for his short set is currently unclear.
