A&W has officially added a few new spicy items to its menu inspired by a popular foodie hack.

The fast food joint has dropped three new Buddy burgers, but these aren't just your average Buddy burgers. A&W is upping the ante with three new limited-time Buddy burgers made with a spicy piri piri sauce.

"The new Buddy Burger brings the heat with a distinctive piri piri sauce (hot chilli pepper flavour), topped with crisp whole-leaf lettuce, and a slice of tomato and red onion, and comes with your choice of seasoned 100% breaded chicken breast, a 1.6 oz grass-fed beef patty, or opt for a crispy hash brown potato patty," A&W said in a press release shared with MTL Blog.

Whether you prefer chicken, or beef or wish to keep things veggie with a hashbrown patty, A&W's new burgers are all sandwiched in a freshly toasted bun and cost $3.99 each.

Well, with new sandwiches comes the desire to try 'em all out and let me tell you something, my mouth is still on fire.

For less than $4 a burger, I'd say this is quite the steal for those looking for a satisfying and filling bite without breaking the bank, but these new spicy piri piri Buddy burgers aren't for the faint of heart.

If you're a spicy fan, then this is by no means new territory for you. However, for those who have a tough time with added spice, you might want to tread lightly 'cause A&W isn't messing around when they say this is a spicy piri piri burger.

While all three definitely hit the spot, one Buddy burger, in particular, struck me as the most delicious and I highly recommend it.

While this is an OK option for those who prefer to stick with chicken, it wasn't my favourite of the three new Buddy burgers.

The chicken patty is a bit too thin for my liking, allowing it to get lost amongst the other ingredients, especially the spicy sauce and tomato slice. Now, toss in a second chicken patty, and we're talking.

The Beef Buddy burger offered a real nice authentic burger taste. While the piri piri sauce certainly shined through, at times a bit too much, it offered just the right amount of kick without ruining the overall burger.

The crunch from the lettuce and onion was also a nice touch. The only downside was the size of the patty. Much like the chicken option, a second patty would be needed to make this burger totally worthwhile. Otherwise, the beef was a bit too thin.

Now, who would have thought that a hashbrowns burger would beat out a chicken and beef patty? A&W's iconic hashbrown offers the best of both worlds. The tastes and flavours of a spicy burger as well as the crunch from the potato.

Also, the potato option was somehow less spicy than the rest of the new Buddy burger options. Whether the potato neutralized some of the chilli sauce or maybe I was just used to the heat by then, the hashbrowns burger was top tier and I would certainly order this bad boy again.
