As one of the biggest fast food companies in the country, Tim Hortons has made a lot of changes to its menu over the years, but not all of them have been hits. Some of the coffee chain's fan favourites quietly disappeared, while others were replaced with new creations that just didn't measure up. For plenty of people, the cravings for those long-lost treats never really went away.

With that in mind, we recently asked MTL Blog readers which discontinued Tim Hortons menu items they still miss the most, and the comment section quickly turned into a nostalgia trip. From donuts that were gone too soon to savoury dishes that deserve a second chance, here are some of the top picks locals say they'd love to see return to the menu.

Poutine. Made up of the holy trinity of fries, cheese curds, and gravy, it might just be Quebec's crowning culinary achievement — or at least its most beloved.

In recent decades, this casse-croûte classic has gone from local favourite to national staple, showing up on menus far beyond the borders of la belle province. Even the biggest North American burger chains have jumped on the poutine bandwagon, adding their own versions of the saucy treat to the menu (at least in Quebec locations).

A&W's newest menu item takes the term "doggie bag" very literally.

For a limited time, you can actually roll up to the drive-thru with your pup and get your good boy or girl their very own dog-friendly meal while also contributing to charity.

Listen, Montreal's food scene is unparalleled but when it comes to our fast food choices, it's clear that we're missing out on some favourites that Canadians in other provinces and our neighbours down south get to enjoy on a daily.

Sure, we've got a few notable chains based in Quebec such as St-Hubert, La Belle Province and Bâton Rouge — but anyone who has had to travel to the States or to Ontario for a taste of Popeyes, Panera or Chipotle is all too familiar with that FOMO feeling.

A&W has officially added a few new spicy items to its menu inspired by a popular foodie hack.

The fast food joint has dropped three new Buddy burgers, but these aren't just your average Buddy burgers. A&W is upping the ante with three new limited-time Buddy burgers made with a spicy piri piri sauce.

Now, burgers, subs and sandwiches totally get the job done whenever you're craving a loaded fast-food bite but wraps are where the real foodie feast is at. From the golden-brown, well-seasoned chicken, and crisp bacon strips all the way to the generous amount of ranch dressing all snuggly wrapped in a warm and lightly toasted tortilla — fast-food wraps hit every. single. time.

I decided to compare the McDonald's McWrap to the crispy chicken wrap on the Tim Hortons menu and it's safe to say that one fast food restaurant certainly knows a thing or two more about wrap making than the other.

On October 2, A&W Canada launched three new permanent sandwiches to its menu — a first in over five years! The lineup of new A&W sandwiches includes the Nashville Hot Chicken Cruncher, the Chubby Chicken Cruncher and the BLT Chicken Cruncher.

Each chicken patty weighs about five ounces, making it clear that you get your money's worth. The fast food chain has been testing out new menu items all year round with additions such as the Spicy Dill Pickle Burger, flavoured frozen lemonades, and of course the root-beer-infused slushies. While a few may have felt flat, it's safe to say A&W really hit the nail on the head this time.

For a fast-food joint, Jollibee is taking its sweet time when it comes to opening locations in Quebec. The Filipino sensation is still on track to open locations in La Belle Province — including, presumably, Montreal — that serve its popular fried chicken, spaghetti, and traditional noodle dishes. But the timeline for expansion remains unclear.

A company spokesperson told MTL Blog that "the details are still being finalized."
