Parents in Quebec could get up to $648 per child when the Canada Child Benefit drops this May

Yes, it's tax-free cash.

A stack of Canadian money.

Here's what to know about the May 2025 deposit, including who's eligible and how much you might get.

Senior Writer

If you're raising kids in Quebec, you know the expenses add up fast — from daycare fees to grocery bills and everything in between. But for eligible families, some financial relief is just around the corner.

The next Canada Child Benefit (CCB) payment — known in French as Allocation canadienne pour enfants (ACE) — is scheduled for Monday, May 20, 2025. And depending on your household income, you could receive up to $648.91 per child this month.

Here's what to know about the May 2025 deposit, including who's eligible, how much you might get, and how to apply if you haven't yet.

What is the Canada Child Benefit?

The CCB is a non-taxable monthly payment from the federal government that helps parents and guardians cover the cost of raising children under 18. It's meant to ease the financial pressure of childcare, food, clothing, and other essentials.

To qualify, you must:

  • Live in Canada and file taxes here
  • Be the primary caregiver of the child
  • Live with the child full-time
  • Have filed your (and your partner's) income tax return

In shared custody situations, payments are usually split equally.

How much can you get in May 2025?

Amounts are based on your family's adjusted net income. For households earning under $36,502, the maximum monthly benefit is:

  • $648.91 for each child under 6
  • $547.50 for each child aged 6 to 17

Families with higher incomes may still receive partial payments. To estimate your exact amount, you can use the CRA's Child and Family Benefits Calculator.

Heads up: Starting July 2025, new payment amounts will kick in based on your 2024 tax return. The CCB is also indexed to inflation.

When is the next payment?

The May 2025 deposit will arrive on Monday, May 20. If you're signed up for direct deposit, it should land in your account that day. Paper cheques may take a few extra days.

Here are the next payment dates:

  • May 20, 2025
  • June 20, 2025

How to apply

If you haven't signed up yet, you can apply:

  • Online via your CRA My Account
  • When registering your child’s birth
  • By mailing Form RC66 to the CRA

Once enrolled, you don't need to reapply every year — just make sure your taxes are filed on time.

And remember: the CCB is fully tax-free, so the full amount goes directly into your pocket — no deductions, no strings attached.
