Montreal's Beautiful Floating Bar Is Docked On The Canal & Officially Open For The Summer

All aboard!
Senior Editor

One of the city's most popular summer drinking spots is back for the 2020 season. The Canal Lounge, Montreal's floating bar on the Lachine Canal, officially opened its doors on July 14. The little boat is docked just south of the Atwater Market next to the footbridge that connects Little Burgundy and St-Henri with Pointe-St-Charles.

"Come and experience this unique 49-year-old restored Canadian flyboat," the bar's website encourages.

"Despite the fact that it doesn't sail, it offers the perfect opportunity for passengers to tickle their sea legs while relaxing on a romantic evening, over carefully crafted cocktails and some tapas."

On the menu: ten cocktail choices, in addition to old-fashioneds and martinis, as well as a selection of wines and beers on tap.

For the peckish, there are snacks like olive tapenade, chorizo, and nuts.

But the views are the main attraction.

Tucked along a particularly beautiful (and busy!) stretch of the canal, the Lounge is a great spot to take in the surrounding scenery and activity.

From the coveted perch at the back of the vessel, customers can watch swan pedal boats pass on the water.

Those lucky enough to claim the Adirondack chairs on the bow can enjoy the chime of bells as bikes zip along the nearby bike path.

Like every establishment, the bar has made adjustments for the times, telling MTL Blog that it's operating at half capacity to allow for social distancing.

"We are happy to be operating and welcome the people onboard and being back in the neighbourhood," the team says.

"Since it is less busy in the boat the experience can be very romantic and we are together with our team to give the best experience in these hard times."

The bar is walk-in only — no reservations or renting it out for private events.

Only licenced adults are allowed onboard and a minimum of one order is mandatory for every passenger.
