It May Be Difficult To Breathe In These 10 Areas Of Quebec Today And Here's Why
It could be difficult to breathe in parts of Quebec on July 11 as smog alerts and special air quality advisories have been issued for 10 areas.
A total of four areas are under smog alert — Abitibi, Témiscamingue, Lac-Saint-Jean and Saguenay — as "high concentrations of fine particulate matter are expected" and "smoke from forest fires in Ontario will cause poor air quality today," according to Environment Canada.

"Smog is most likely to affect children with asthma and people with respiratory or heart conditions. It is therefore recommended that they avoid strenuous outdoor activity until the smog warning is lifted. [...] Unusual coughing, throat irritation, headaches and shortness of breath are among the possible symptoms."
Six other areas have special air quality advisories: in Baie-Comeau, La Tuque, Les Escoumins - Forestville, Parent - Gouin Reservoir, at the Verendrye Wildlife Reserve, and the Manicouagan River.
If you don't have an air conditioner at home, it is recommended to make sure that "the interior temperature is not too excessive" when you close your doors and "windows to prevent smoke from entering" because "exposure to excessive heat can also trigger health problems."
