Bad news, Montreal — Toronto has beat us once again in a QS University Ranking. This time, the University of Toronto has McGill beat in every category in the new "World University Rankings By Subject."\nThe report looked at five broad subjects: arts and humanities, engineering and technology, life sciences and medicine, natural sciences, and social sciences and management.\nEditor's Choice: Montrealers 'May Be Seeing A Third Wave' Of COVID-19, Drouin Says\n\nHow do UofT and McGill rank in each subject area?\nThe breakdown for the rival universities is as follows:\n\n\nArts and humanities:\n\n\nUofT: #17\n\n\nMcGill: #33\n\n\n\n\nEngineering and technology:\n\n\nUofT: #18\n\n\nMcGill: #40\n\n\n\n\nLife sciences and medicine:\n\n\nUofT: #13\n\n\nMcGill: #31\n\n\n\n\nNatural sciences:\n\n\nUofT: #18\n\n\nMcGill: #48\n\n\n\n\nSocial sciences and management:\n\n\nUofT: #18\n\n\nMcGill: #43\n\n\n\n\n\nHow does the QS university subject ranking work?\nQS says it "analysed nearly 14,000 individual university programs from 1,440 universities across 85 locations around the world," organizing them into "51 different subjects" across the five categories, which it called "broad subject areas."\nUofT also gets an additional distinction. QS writes that "no university around the world is included in the top 50 for a subject more than the University of Toronto in Canada."\nUnsurprisingly, Harvard and MIT get top honours. The two Boston-area universities "both ranked as the best university in the world for a dozen subjects — more than any other university," according to QS.\n\nHow do the universities rank overall?\nRecall that, coming in at number 25 on the latest overall global ranking, the University of Toronto claimed the title of top Canadian university.\nMcGill University trailed six places behind, at number 31. \nThe Université de Montreal is the next highest-ranked in the city at 118 globally, according to QS.\nConcordia University? 477th in the world. \nOf the schools included in the list, Ryerson University in Toronto ranked last in Canada.
