The bike path across the Saint-Lawrence River that links the Island of Montreal to Parc Jean-Drapeau, Île des Soeurs and the South Shore has reopened for summer, a press release confirmed.

This includes the portion that takes cyclists over the Champlain bridge, making for a beautiful ride — whether you're looking for outdoor exercise and views or you actually need to get from Saint-Lambert to the downtown core.

Editor's Choice: BIXI Season In Montreal Is Starting Early This Year

The 14-kilometre bike path in Montreal, according to the Société du parc Jean-Drapeau (SPJD)'s press release, makes up part of The Great Trail and La Route Verte.

Fun fact: The Great Trail, formerly known as the Trans Canada Trail, is the longest recreational trail in Canada and connects all of its provinces and territories. Having taken 25 years to build, the trail covers 24,000 kilometres of land and waterways in Canada.

Quebec's Route Verte covers over 5,300 kilometres, allowing cyclists to travel to Ontario, New Brunswick and the United States.

According to the SPJD, the bike path detour on the Victoria Bridge will continue this season. Cyclists must use the safe passage section of the traffic lane because the cycling overpass is still unusable.
