If you've been eager to try Mid-Day Squares — you know, those Montreal-made chocolate bars Kim Kardashian said she 'loves' in a Vogue interview — now's your chance to do so for free.

The Mid-Day Squares team will be handing out free samples at specific Costco Wholesale locations over the next few months and two of the stores are in the Montreal area.

The squares — made with real chocolate and filled with delicious ingredients including peanut butter and cookie dough — are designed to "stop your cravings in between meals," according to the website. Each flavour contains 6 grams of protein, 4 to 5 grams of sugar and 4 grams of fibre.

"The real chocolate will take care of your sweet tooth and the protein and fiber will give you sustained energy to get you through and beyond the afternoon slump," the site reads.

But don't just take the brand's word for it. Take Kim Kardashian's.

In a June 2023 interview with Vogue Italia, Kardashian showed off the items she frequently keeps in her bag.

"Always in any bag that I have is snacks because you never know when you're going to get starving and need a little treat," she said, pulling a "Peanut Butta" flavoured square from her purse. "I love these Mid-Day Squares. Tastes like a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup."

At the time, Mid-Day Squares co-founder Jake Karls told MTL Blog that the shout out was a "wild surprise," and that the company has never sent Kardashian any products.

If you want to put the brand's promises and Kim K's words to the test and sample a free square in the Montreal area, stop by the Costco in Pointe-Claire until March 30 or the Costco in Laval from April 30 to May 12.

Free samples in all four flavours — Peanut Butta, Almond Crunch, Brownie Batter and Cookie Dough — will be on offer every day from open to close, co-founder and co-CEO Nick Saltarelli told MTL Blog via e-mail. If you want to meet Saltarelli, Karls — who made last year's Forbes' 30 under 30 list — or the third founder and creative director, Lezlie Karls Saltarelli, they're planning to be at Costco between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. most days.

You can also purchase a 12-pack of Mid-Day Squares for $19.99 at the Costco locations where they are being sampled.

If Mid-Day Squares sees success with its Costco sample circuit, known as a Costco roadshow, Costco will likely opt to carry them more permanently. Saltarelli said the team is currently on track to break two Costco roadshow records: the Costco Canada seven-day sales record and the full roadshow sales record (which accounts for the last 13 days).
